This was an awesome class project in which I recorded a two night jazz event which showcased not only the full size big bands of Michigan Tech's music department, but also some smaller combo groups with ties to the university. It was my first foyer into making sure that every individual was heard, yet still staying true to the overall sound of a group. It was very interesting putting my views on the subject, and hearing the advice of my professors who have been doing this type of work for many years. We ended up micing pretty much every instrument to give the mixing engineer maximum flexibility, but I made sure to put up a very good pair of microphones for recording the overall ensemble.
